UW Madison Students Get Support for Volunteering
Literacy Network offers a variety of internships, paid and unpaid.
If you want to gain ESL teaching and lesson planning experience, please apply for our Community Literacy Internship. Hiring takes place at the end of each semester for the next term - qualified students are welcome to submit a resume any time.
If you would like to develop or utilize your non-profit skills, consider submitting your resume for an internship in volunteer coordination, grant research and/or writing, or marketing.
The University of Wisconsin Literacy Initiative (UWisLit) is a student organization with a mission to recruit, train, and support literacy volunteers working with adult students in Dane County.
The Morgridge Center for Public Service also provides support to UW Students who are interested in getting more involved in the Madison Community. Learn more about these services at their website:
- The Volunteer Transportation Program provides free cab rides for students who volunteer on a regular basis for eight weeks or more at a non-profit agency off of the bus lines.
- Service-Learning combines community service and learning. Faculty members choose to incorporate a service-learning component, partner with a non-profit agency, and facilitate in-class reflection actives to connect the student's service to learning.

Make a Cash Contribution Through Your Employer's Matching Gift Programs
Many larger employers offer to match their employees' contributions of time or money to a charitable organization. Matching grants range from $250 to $1000. Applying to your employee matching gift program is a great way to increase Literacy Network's capacity to reach adult learners. Contact us if you have any questions or need documentation of your volunteer time. We have received matching gifts from a few companies already:
