Our Mission is to teach reading, writing and speaking skills to adults and families so they can achieve financial independence, good health and greater involvement in community life.
Our Vision is that every person in Dane County will have the literacy skills needed to independently pursue their life goals, support their family and be active in their community.
Literacy Network is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization of professional teachers, tutors, volunteers and donors working together to improve adult literacy in Dane County. Founded in 1974, we have been a United Way agency since 1979.
Our Volunteer Tutors give their learners more than improved literacy skills -they offer the chance for a learner to gain confidence, awaken their imagination, and improve their connection to the world around them. Click here for more information about our tutoring and other volunteer positions.
Our Learners make us who we are. Each day, we're energized by their dedication, perseverance and courage in the face of hardship. For them, our mission is simple: To give hope through literacy. To offer a new start. To support those dreaming of a better life. Click here for some of their stories or click one of the photos below.
